Let's understand it better!
What are they?
Goleman (2011), argues that emotions are fundamental guides for us. In fact, they help us face difficult and important situations. Only with the intellect, that is, the rational mind, we could not overcome these periods/moments. It is understood, therefore, that emotions have the task of helping the rational mind to make decisions. Even Vignati (2005) expresses that primary emotions "perform a vital function for the individual and have adaptive value for the species."
Why are they important in children?
Emotional development is a very important aspect of a child's growth. In developmental psychology, this stage is defined as the time when fundamental skills are learned, such as recognizing one's own emotions and those of others, beginning to use emotional language, emerging empathic skills, and learning to manage and regulate one's emotional experience. All these skills, help the child to become emotionally competent, helping him to establish positive and effective social relationships.
