Where did Mom and Dad go?
“Do Mom and Dad still exist even though they are far away from me and in another room?” Of course they do! It’s just that this is hard for a young child to understand, which is why when we hide behind our hands to cuckoo the child always falls for it! The game of hide and seek (from the age of two) allows the child to develop the ability to expect something to happen: there are behaviors that he cannot control directly! In the beginning there will be difficult emotions at times of separation and you must look for strategies so that your child feels confident that you will return to him: confident that you will return, he will also be more confident to explore the world with the people you leave him with even if it is just to play hide and seek!
Routine helps him to feel in control of the situation, to anticipate it and know what to expect, to know that he can be helped in the most difficult moments and be understood. It can help him to have a “special” time available to him at a certain time of your day (e.g. before bedtime read him a book).
