The prerequisites of mathematics

Mathematics has always been feared by many children! So it will be very normal to hear from your child: “Mom, Dad … I do not want to go to school today, there is math! or “I have a stomach ache, today is the math test. So how best to deal with this major hurdle? By working right now on the prerequisites of mathematics, to help your child already be together with the numbers!

The first experiences that a child has with numbers are very important, influencing not only the future learning of this subject but also the emotions he will have when faced with small daily tasks, not only during school hours!

Do-it-yourself games

Start with the child’s interests to create engaging activities (e.g. counting toy cars, Barbies, figurines, balls). The important thing is to always ask at the end of the count: how many are there? (e.g. one, two, three, four, FIVE… well, so how many are there? FIVE);

Daily activities

You could, for example, get into the habit of counting out loud the steps to get into the house or the last 10/20 steps before arriving at school or at the supermarket, together with the child, the cookies you eat in the morning…Even shopping, preparing the table in the kitchen, are good moments to involve children.
